Our Philosophy

STEPS of Recovery’s Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Treatment Program has been designed for clients just
coming out of active use or relapse, referred via a Drug Court, PO, CPS, or mental health agency, or an ASAM
Level of Care (LOC) 4.0 or 3.7 detoxification program. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)
defines the nationally accepted Levels of Care (LOC), management responsibilities and goals for accepted and
appropriate addictions treatment.
Our SUD treatment program is a total of typically 9 – 12 months of continuum of care in our various
facilities in our peaceful single site 3-acre complex in Gallipolis, Ohio. This extended duration of care model
has been foundationed on evidence – based management as defined and recommended nationally by ASAM,
from 15 years of SUD management experience, and additionally observations of ongoing relapses/recidivism
outcomes from various programs with shorter, less structured or less monitored programs.

Recovery is a journey, not a destination. Every step forward is progress!

When I arrived at Steps of Recovery, I was broken—spiritually and mentally. Within my first week, I ended up back in a psychiatric hospital, but when I returned, they welcomed me with open arms. That compassion, combined with stability, structure, and medication management, changed my life. With Doc’s support, I’ve experienced a dramatic turnaround. I’ve regained my spiritual footing, built healthy routines, and even reconnected with my father after three years. I’m not able to work due to my mental health, but contributing through chores here has given me purpose and accountability. I do what I can to help, and this place continues to help me. Steps of Recovery treats both substance use and mental health, and I recommend it to anyone who needs help—I even told people at the hospital about it. STEPS has believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and this program gave me the tools to rebuild my life.

I came to STEPS of Recovery after struggling with heroin and being court ordered to go there. The counselors have helped me by giving me new coping skills and the knowledge to do better. The other clients have helped me by showing me how to find and stay in my lane and the right way to do things to look out for myself. My biggest struggles were having the self-will to complete the program and my mental health. This program has helped me learn how to understand and coping with my anger, depression, anxiety, and self-will as well as knowing what I have to do to keep from relapsing. To anyone looking for recovery, STEPS of Recovery will help you if you want to get better, work on your anger and gain the knowledge and path to help with your anxiety and depression.

Life throws us curve balls, things we do not expect. I never dreamed that I would be addicted to a substance that would eventually take over my life. I was in a dark place with nowhere to go, but up. Through many searches and viewings of testimonials, I found my temporary home. As a native to Nashville, TN, it was quite a ways from home. But it was what I was longing for. I needed time and space away from the chaos that was running my life. It was an experience that I could not have asked for more. The counselors are like none other, knowing how to handle each and every client’s challenges and to give clear and firm direction for each individual. The medical staff well-versed at what they do, tend to every physical and mental needs. With an “escape” provided, there is a wonderful place around back with a fire pit and swings to take a load off and reflect upon yourself and daily lessons taught in group settings. The healing from the STEPS of Recovery is something I thought I would never have. Recovery is a process that never stops, but with the tools given to you there you can combat anything. If there is ever a doubt that the struggle is too real there is a bed here for you! STEPS of Recovery, I owe it all to you!
